Natural hair is a journey. It is one that make you love yourself and the whole of you. Being a black girl is such a revolution now, that you can only want to remain black.

When I went natural (almost) 5 years ago, I did not know what I was doing. My cousin told me to try the natural hair thing, and if I did not like, I could revert back to just doing me. I used to wash and blow dry my hair every week, so my hair became weak and was damaged and dry.

At some point I had the creamy crack which I loved but when the growth kicks in, crying would be the nature of the day as I hated my head being touched, especially when it came to blow drying and also Protective Styling. The pain was immense.

When I decided to go natural, I did a lot of research on You tube university and that helped me with my natural hair journey. I watched video after video after video. The one who helped me with my natural hair journey was Naptural85, an American based You Tuber(since then we in Kenya didn’t have any natural hair gurus)- https://youtu.be/mVRHv_sRPm8

I didn’t want to chop my hair so I just grew it out and kept giving it a lot of tender loving care. Healthy hair results in growth and less damage, as I have come to learn.

When I joined this journey, I always thought my hair was not growing, but over the years it has shown great improvement and growth. Would I go back to the creamy crack? NO!! I am happy with where my hair is at the moment and I wouldn’t change it for anything.

Over the next couple of days and hopefully weeks, I will be taking you through a few lessons here and there over my five year course. Every day though is a learning lesson, which keeps me going in this journey. What would you like to see incorporated as I start and share this journey with you?
